Why Marines Thrive at Two Marines Moving

The Mission Changed. The Standards Didn't.

From the Founder

Nicholas Edmond Baucom — Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Two Marines Moving

At Two Marines Moving, this isn't a slogan. It isn't a gimmick. It isn't marketing language. It's lived experience.

The company was founded on November 10, 2008 — the United States Marine Corps Birthday — by Nicholas Edmond Baucom, a Marine Corps Infantryman (0311) who served from 2002 to 2008 and received an Honorable Discharge after six years of faithful service to God, Country, Family, and Corps.

Like Marines often say: "Once a Marine, Always a Marine." That phrase carries weight. Within Marine Corps culture, Marines who serve honorably remain part of the Marine family long after active service ends. Baucom earned the title Marine, served honorably, and carried many of the lessons learned in the Corps into civilian life, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

That matters because leadership sets standards. And standards shape culture.

Since its founding, Two Marines Moving has employed hundreds of Marines as:

  • Moving Specialists and Team Leaders
  • Crew Chiefs and Drivers
  • Trainers and Operations personnel

Over time, a pattern emerged. A remarkably consistent one.

Marines don't just move furniture. They execute missions.

Why We Hire Marines

At Two Marines Moving, we don't hire Marines simply because they are Marines. We hire Marines because of the habits, standards, expectations, and leadership traits often developed through Marine Corps service. The Marine Corps places enormous emphasis on:

  • Accountability and teamwork
  • Discipline and leadership
  • Standards and mission accomplishment

Those same principles happen to be valuable in the moving industry. The mission may be different. The fundamentals are remarkably similar. Which is why Marines often thrive here.

10 Reasons Marines Excel Here

01

Marines Show Up on Time

Punctuality is not a suggestion in the Marine Corps — it's a baseline expectation. Marines are trained to be early, be prepared, and be accountable. That translates directly into client trust, schedule discipline, and professional credibility. When clients are waiting for a crew to arrive, punctuality matters. Marines understand that instinctively.

02

Marines Understand Physical Work

Moving is demanding work. Marines are already accustomed to long days, heavy loads, physical discomfort, repetitive effort, and working while tired. They don't romanticize hard work. They simply do it. The mission needs to be accomplished. So they get to work.

03

Marines Operate as a Team

The Marine Corps teaches that individual performance matters — but team accomplishment matters more. That mindset transfers exceptionally well to moving operations. Successful moves require coordination, communication, timing, and trust. Marines often develop the habit of thinking beyond themselves. They anticipate what teammates need. They communicate clearly. They operate together.

04

Marines Understand Standards

One lesson the Marine Corps reinforces continuously is simple: standards matter. Marines are trained to operate within established expectations — procedures, accountability, inspection, repetition, consistency. In the moving industry, that means protecting furniture correctly, packing correctly, securing loads correctly, and maintaining equipment properly. The standard is established. The expectation is execution.

05

Marines Stay Calm Under Pressure

Every move contains friction. Schedules change. Weather changes. Clients become stressed. Unexpected obstacles appear. Marines are accustomed to operating in environments where conditions are rarely perfect. That experience often translates into composure, problem-solving, clear thinking, and emotional stability. Clients notice that. Teams notice that. Leadership notices that.

06

Marines Respect Other People's Property

Marines spend years being held accountable for equipment, gear, weapons, vehicles, and resources. That accountability mindset transfers directly into moving operations. At Two Marines Moving, crews are trusted with furniture, personal belongings, family heirlooms, appliances, and homes. Marines generally understand that entrusted property deserves careful treatment. Accountability is non-negotiable.

07

Marines Communicate Clearly

Moving operations require communication. Good communication prevents mistakes. Marines are trained to give clear instructions, listen carefully, confirm understanding, and communicate directly. That reduces confusion and improves execution. Clarity creates efficiency.

08

Marines Take Responsibility

One of the most valuable traits many Marines bring is ownership. When problems occur, the focus shifts toward solutions. The question becomes: "What needs to happen now?" — not "Who can I blame?" That mindset matters especially for Moving Specialists, Team Leaders, Crew Chiefs, and Drivers. Responsibility creates trust. Trust creates stronger teams.

09

Marines Grow Into Leadership Roles

Leadership in the Marine Corps is not reserved for senior leaders. Young Marines are frequently given significant responsibility early. As Marines gain experience, leadership follows. They learn leadership by example, accountability, mentorship, standards enforcement, and mission accomplishment. That is one reason Marines frequently excel as Team Leaders, Crew Chiefs, Trainers, and Mentors. At Two Marines Moving, leadership is earned through performance. Marines tend to understand that model very well.

10

Marines Take Pride in the Mission

Marines generally do not require applause to care. They take pride in completing the mission, doing the job right, representing something larger than themselves, and upholding standards. At Two Marines Moving, that pride often appears in clean equipment, professional crews, well-executed moves, positive client experiences, and attention to detail. People can see the difference.

Why This Matters for Careers at Two Marines Moving

The qualities that help Marines succeed are often the same qualities that help civilians succeed. We're not looking for excuses, drama, hype, or ego. We're looking for:

  • Reliability and discipline
  • Teamwork and professionalism
  • Accountability and pride in execution

Those qualities are not exclusive to Marines. But Marines often arrive with years of experience operating inside those standards. And civilians who embrace the same standards thrive here as well.
