The Seven Things God Hates and the Kind of People We Are Trying to Build

A Leadership, Hiring, and Culture Guide from the Book of Proverbs

At Two Marines Moving, we move families, businesses, and communities every day. We are also in the people-development business.

Every truck is a leadership laboratory.

Every move is a test of character.

Every promotion is a judgment of trust.

Over nearly two decades in business, I have learned something important: Skills can be trained. Character must be chosen.

A new team member can learn:

  • How to protect furniture
  • How to use moving equipment
  • How to pack a truck
  • How to execute a professional relocation
  • How to communicate with clients

What is far more difficult to teach is:

  • Integrity
  • Teachability
  • Accountability
  • Self-discipline
  • Trustworthiness

That is why character comes first.

As a faith-based company, we believe wisdom matters. One of the most powerful character assessments ever written appears in the Book of Proverbs.

The Seven Things God Hates

Proverbs 6:16-19 says:

"There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies, and a person who stirs up conflict in the community."

Whether you are a person of faith or simply appreciate timeless wisdom, this passage provides a remarkable framework for leadership, team building, and culture.

When I read this passage, I do not see an ancient list.

I see a hiring guide.

I see a leadership guide.

I see a culture guide.

1. Pride

"Haughty eyes."

There is a difference between confidence and arrogance.

Confidence says: "I can learn."

Arrogance says: "I already know."

The moving industry rewards people who remain coachable. No matter how many trucks you have packed, there is always something to improve. No matter how many moves you have completed, there is always something to learn.

The strongest Team Leaders I have known were not the loudest. They were the most teachable.

Humility creates growth. Pride limits it.

2. Dishonesty

"A lying tongue."

Trust is the foundation of every successful organization.

Clients must trust us.

Teammates must trust us.

Leaders must trust us.

A truck crew cannot operate effectively without trust. A company cannot grow without trust.

People make mistakes. Mistakes are part of life. Dishonesty is different.

When something goes wrong, tell the truth. Own it. Fix it. Move forward.

The truth builds trust. Lies destroy it.

3. Harming Others

"Hands that shed innocent blood."

While this verse speaks directly to violence, the principle is broader. Protect people. Protect clients. Protect teammates. Protect families. Protect property. Protect reputations. Protect trust.

The strongest people are not those who abuse power. The strongest people are those who use their strength to serve others.

At Two Marines Moving, leadership is not about authority. Leadership is about responsibility.

4. Scheming

"A heart that devises wicked schemes."

Good organizations operate on principles. Bad organizations operate on manipulation.

Politics. Excuses. Hidden agendas. Blame shifting. Shortcut seeking.

These behaviors poison culture.

We believe in straightforward communication. Say what you mean. Mean what you say. Follow through. Do the right thing even when nobody is watching.

Integrity may not always be the easiest path. It is always the best path.

5. Running Toward Trouble

"Feet that are quick to rush into evil."

Some people seem to chase drama. Others seem to chase solutions.

We know which group we want on our trucks.

Professional movers solve problems. Professional leaders prevent them.

Every day, our teams encounter challenges:

  • Tight staircases
  • Heavy furniture
  • Traffic delays
  • Weather issues
  • Last-minute surprises

The question is never whether problems exist. The question is how you respond. The people who thrive here are problem-solvers. Not excuse-makers.

6. False Witness

"A false witness who pours out lies."

Your reputation matters. Your word matters. Your credibility matters.

A team cannot function when people exaggerate, distort facts, or spread falsehoods. Strong leaders seek facts. Strong teammates deal in reality. Strong organizations build cultures where truth is valued.

We do not need perfect people. We need honest people.

7. Creating Division

"A person who stirs up conflict in the community."

This may be the most important lesson in the entire passage.

Every company faces challenges. Every team faces stress. Every organization experiences conflict.

The question is simple:

Are you a force multiplier or a force divider?

Do people perform better because you are present? Or worse?

Do you bring solutions? Or drama?

Do you strengthen the team? Or weaken it?

At Two Marines Moving, we look for builders. People who build trust. People who build relationships. People who build teams. People who build futures.

Who Thrives at Two Marines Moving?

The people who tend to thrive here are often:

  • Veterans
  • First responders
  • ROTC cadets
  • Athletes
  • Tradesmen
  • Eagle Scouts
  • Team captains
  • Hard-working men and women who take pride in doing things correctly

Not because of a title. Not because of a resume.

But because these environments often reward accountability, discipline, teamwork, and service.

We are not looking for perfect people. We are looking for people who are committed to becoming better than they were yesterday.

The Two Marines Moving Standard

We believe:

  • Character matters.
  • Integrity matters.
  • Accountability matters.
  • Professionalism matters.
  • Trust matters.
  • Faith matters.

The moving industry needs strong backs.

But strong backs alone do not build great companies. Great companies are built by people of character. People who can be trusted. People who are willing to serve. People who choose responsibility over excuses. People who understand that success is earned, not given.

Final Thoughts

At Two Marines Moving, we are not simply moving furniture.

We are helping families through major life transitions. We are serving our communities. And along the way, we are developing people.

Every move is an opportunity to grow.

Every challenge is an opportunity to lead.

Every day is an opportunity to become the kind of person others can trust.

That is the standard we strive for.

That is the kind of team we are building.

And that is the kind of people we are looking to hire.
