Two Marines Moving — Corporate History

Over the years, Two Marines Moving has accumulated a variety of milestones, media features, recognitions, and historical documents.

Some of these records were created internally. Others were created by independent organizations observing the company from the outside.

The following excerpt comes from Google's 2016 Small Business Economic Impact Report. The report highlighted small businesses across the United States that successfully leveraged Google's tools and digital platforms to reach clients, expand operations, and create economic impact within their communities.

At the time this report was published, Two Marines Moving had already earned recognition as one of the fastest-growing private companies in America and had established itself as a veteran-focused moving company serving the Mid-Atlantic region.

We are preserving the following excerpt in its original form as part of the Two Marines Moving Corporate History Archive.

Google Spotlights Two Marines Moving

Nick Baucom served his country honorably for six years as a U.S. Marine. When he came home, he wanted a way to keep his fellow veterans gainfully employed and away from the challenges of adjusting to civilian life. He founded Two Marines Moving in 2008 to give Virginia businesses and residents a moving option they could trust, one that reflected the reputation and integrity of the Marines.

"You can trust our Marines," Baucom says.

From one man with a rental truck, Two Marines Moving now employs more than 100 veterans from the Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force. At the peak of its expansion, Two Marines Moving was regarded as one of the fastest-growing private companies in America, doubling revenue annually for three consecutive years.

"When people think about the fastest-growing company, they usually don't envision a traditional business like ours, but we were consistently growing at 100 percent year-over-year. Google was an integral part of that growth."

Baucom began using AdWords, Google's advertising platform, only weeks after launching the business.

"It's where the reach is. It's where the customers are."

With an estimated 200 percent return on investment, AdWords continued to generate business opportunities for the company. The platform also supported one of the company's primary objectives: recruiting veterans.

"What separates us is who we hire. Our company is comprised of a majority veteran team, and we want to continue offering those opportunities."

Google Analytics provided insights that allowed the company to manage its marketing budget intelligently, while G Suite tools such as Gmail, Docs, and Drive supported collaboration and operational efficiency.

At the time of publication, Two Marines Moving was providing moving services across the East Coast and continuing to expand operations. Inspired by that momentum, Baucom stated his long-term objective:

"Veterans will always have a home here. We will always find work for them to do at Two Marines Moving."
